Heather Kennedy-Montplaisir was born on January 19, 1973 and called Moncton, New Brunswick home for most of her life. Married to Martin Montplaisir for 25 years, she was a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend to many.
You can read her obituary to learn more about her here.
Messages #FromHeather is a legacy project to ensure Heather's light and love for life live beyond her life, one that was cut too short due to cancer.
Heather faced many challenges and set-backs in her 2.5 year cancer journey but was a beacon of hope for others, an inspiration to many, and a strength to everyone who knew her. Cancer may have cut her time on earth short, but it didn't take her love of life, her joy, her sense of adventure, or her passion from her, and we want to ensure to share her powerful messages with the world to inspire people to live their best lives, do what they can with what they have, don't put off to tomorrow what can be done today, and to love those around them.
Messages #FromHeather decals can ordered online (cost covers the cost of printing and mailing, any additional proceeds will be donated to local charities), or at no cost directly from Heather's family or pick yours up at no cost from Boutique Hospice Shoppe, 164 Collishaw St., Moncton, NB or from Maison Albert House, 156 Pleasant St., Moncton, NB.
After losing his beloved wife of 25 years, his partner in crime for 29 years, Martin wanted to find a way to ensure Heather's legacy lived on. He embarked on a social experiment, using his Onewheel as his means of transportation, to share $200 per person with 50 unique people from across the Maritime provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island).
His goal is to inspire them to have an adventure, give to a cause, or split the gift and do both. The only catch, he asks that they share a photo and a story of how they used the money and the impact it had.
Be on the lookout for Martin in Summer 2024, touring on his Onewheel, and see if you can be randomly selected as a recipient of Project Choice.

Myeloma is a blood cancer.
According to Myeloma Canada, "Myeloma is the 2nd most common form of blood cancer, yet sadly most people have never heard of it.
Myeloma is associated with the abnormal behaviour and uncontrolled growth of a type of white blood cell—the plasma cell.
Plasma cells are made in the bone marrow—the spongy tissue found inside bones—and when they’re healthy, they are an important part of your body’s immune system because they help fight infection by producing antibodies that attack germs.
In myeloma, the plasma cells become cancerous (myeloma cells) and interfere with the production of healthy blood cells in the bone marrow. Instead of producing antibodies that fight infection and disease, myeloma cells produce abnormal proteins (called monoclonal protein, monoclonal immunoglobulin, or M-protein). These can cause serious complications and affect different parts of the body such as the bones and kidneys. Although myeloma is a blood cancer, sometimes myeloma cells collect and form a plasmacytoma (a tumour made of plasma cells).
The cause or causes of myeloma remain relatively unknown but there is increasing research that suggests possible associations between myeloma and a decline in immune function, genetic factors, and the environment.
The number of Canadians diagnosed with myeloma is steadily increasing year after year." (Source: Myeloma Canada)
According to the Canadian Cancer Society, "Plasma cell leukemia (PCL) is a rare, aggressive condition where large numbers of plasma cells circulate in the blood. The circulating plasma cells may be the first evidence of disease (called primary PCL) or may develop in the later stages of multiple myeloma (called secondary PCL). Most cases of PCL are primary PCL. PCL is more aggressive than multiple myeloma. (Source: Canadian Cancer Society)
According to Wikipedia, "Onewheel is a self-balancing electric skateboard with a single tire, used as a means of transportation and as a boardsport. Riders place their feet on either side of the tire to face sideways, leaning forward to accelerate and leaning backward to slow down."
But to Martin, the Onewheel has been much more than that. It was a mechanism to get out, meet new people, and explore new terrain. It was an escape when times were hard, a joy when times were good, and a way to get out in the fresh air with Heather to explore.
Onewheel's core philosophy is "if it's awesome, let's do it" and is a natural match for the legacy of Messages #FromHeather.
To learn more about Onewheel, visit them online here. (*We are not sponsored in any way, Martin is just passionate about his Onewheel at the community he has found in riding it)
Experiences are whatever you want them to do! They can be activities you can do for free, or ones that have a cost associated, the choice is yours, but we've provided a list of experiences below to inspire you. The options are truly endless though so don't let this list limit you!
And many many more! Give one or many of these a try and be sure to share your experiences with us using the link on this site.
Paying it forward is as simple as performing a good deed, without expecting anything in return. Instead, the person that you helped is encouraged to do a good deed for someone else. Your actions don't have to be for a specific individual, simply putting good energy into the world and sharing positivity is a powerful way to make an impact.
Whether your action is as simple as holding the door for someone behind you, buying someone a cup of coffee, or as meaningful as donating blood (to learn more about donating blood, visit Canadian Blood Services online here), there is no wrong way to pay it forward.
Here are some other examples of how you can Pay It Forward in your day to day life, but just like with experiences, the options are limitless, so don't let this list limit you!
Even the smallest act of kindness can leave a lasting impact. Try it today!
There isn't one!
Participating is as simple as sharing a kind word, putting one of our decals on your car, skateboard, Onewheel, kayak, or window, and simply choosing love and joy in your day to day life. Smile at a stranger, pet all the dogs, hug your family, tell your friends you love them (do it often, make it weird), let someone go ahead of you in line, put a grocery cart back for someone, thank a nurse - just love your life!
If you have the means, we welcome you to donate to a cause of your choosing in her honour, be sure to tag #FromHeather when you do, but there is no obligation to donate.
Messages #FromHeather decals can be ordered online (cost covers the cost of printing and mailing, any additional proceeds will be donated to local charities), or at no cost directly from Heather's family or pick yours up at no cost from Boutique Hospice Shoppe, 164 Collishaw St., Moncton, NB or from Maison Albert House, 156 Pleasant St., Moncton, NB.
